Early Ducommon Girod four-tune movement

Good things come in small packages -- this is a wonderful, early key wind mechanism!

Mechanism is clean and shiny.

Another view of the mechanism. Comb has no damage at all!

The Ducommun Girod stamp on the bedplate, and a four-digit serial number (indicating EARLY production).

Ducommon Girod manufactured fine cylinder musical mechanisms in Switzerland early in the history of the music box. This music box comes from that early period, around 1835, when fine movements began to enter their heyday. This musical movement is mounted in a clock base and plays four classical tunes. Cylinder measures 7-1/2" x 1-1/2" and plays surprisingly loud and clear, with a rich arrangement!
